Laxman Rao Kirloskar had read about "Industrial Cities" in Europe and the United States, where industrial owners built communities for their employees. His dream was to create his industry and community for his employees.

Then the ruler of Aundh, one of the princely states that came under British rule donated land to Shri Laxman Rao Kirloskar to establish a factory and town, then other factories were built around the town and they were doing production as ancillary units of Kirloskar Bros. On 15 February 1922, the Kundal Road railway station was renamed as Kirloskar Wadi railway station. This place is the second oldest industrial city in India.
