Description: Karamsad is a village in the Anand district of Gujarat. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (31 Oct. 1875) grew up here. He was one of the great leaders of the Indian freedom struggle. He belonged to a farmer family. After completing his law studies, he went to England to become a barrister and secured the first position in the examination. Patel returned to India in 1913 and started his advocacy in Ahmedabad. In 1917 Patel won the election of Ahmedabad Municipality President. In 1918 he came into public life during the uproar of Kheda and Bardoli in Gujarat, where the British government had increased taxes. So Patel took charge on behalf of the farmers and asked the government to withdraw the increased taxes, but the government refused, so he asked the farmers not to pay taxes.

The government finally bowed down to Patel and the government accepted his demand after this victory, he started being called Sardar. In 1930 he went to jail in the Civil Disobedience Movement. He was elected President of the Congress in 1930. After independence on 15 August 1947, he became Deputy Prime Minister. At that time there were 565 princely states in India. He appealed to the all kings in India at that time and urged them to join India as a country, with political foresight he included all small and big princely states in India. Thus he completed the creation of Akhand Bharat and was called the 'Iron Man'. He died on 15 Dec. 1950. Awarded Bharat Ratna posthumously in 1991 for his services to the Nation. The Memorial of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's house in Karamsad is preserved in memory of Patel.
