PO Name: Bet

Description: A small island off the coast of Dwarka reached via Okha, houses a temple of the same name and is believed to be the abode of Lord Krishna when he visited here. The establishment of the temple is attributed to Guru Vallabhacharya. Bet Dwarka, also known as Shankhodhar, is said to be the abode of Lord Krishna during his years of rule in Dwarka. Its name is derived from the words 'bet' and 'bhet' which means 'gift'. It is believed that Lord Krishna received the gift of rice from his friend Sudama. In the epic Mahabharata, Bet Dwarka is known as 'Antardweep' where the people of the Yadava clan had to travel by boat.

Explorations and excavations carried out under the sea have revealed the presence of settlements dating back to the era of the Harappan Civilisation and the Mauryan rule. It now has the country's longest cable-stayed bridge that reduces the distance between Okha and Bet Dwarka. This monumental achievement further enriches the success story of Devbhoomi Dwarka. As a prominent landmark of the Sudarshan Setu, an encapsulates the essence of a developed India and a developed Gujarat.
