Description: Jamnagar is a city located on the western coast of the Gujarat in Saurashtra region. India's first marine wildlife sanctuary and first marine park in declared as a National Park and Sanctuary in August 1980. It is an archipelago of 42 Tropical Islands off the northern coast of Jamnagar and the southern coast of Kutch. Sanctuary covers 458 sq km, of which the Park covers 163 sq km. This is located in the Inter-Tidal zone, between the lowest and highest tide levels. Here 52 Coral Species, of which 42 are hard and 10 are soft. The reef structures provide shelter and safe breeding sites for various small marine species to hide from larger predators. 

7 types of mangroves are found here which are breeding sites for near-threatened Species of Birds. The other categories of Birds seen in the shallow water area are recorded as 80 Species of Birds on the Islands. In the marine water 40 types of Species of Sponges and Starfish of various coolers. The Sea Cucumber, a creature that puffs out its body parts to distract a predator, the Octopus which changes colour for camouflage, Pufferfish which swells up in defense, and suddenly shrinks to escape when trapped, the Dolphin by chance seen in distant waters, and other fascinating inhabitants such as Lichens, Jellyfish, Mollusks, Sea-Slugs, Sea Urchins, Echinoderms, Crabs and other Crustaceans, Mud-Skippers, Worms. Many of these are decorated with bright colours and intricate designs. The Beaches of the coast are breeding grounds for the Green Sea Turtle and other Sea Turtles.
