Description: In 1915, Gandhiji returned from South Africa and made his first ashram at Kocharab Bungalow, It was the centre of Bapu’s many activities, But due to an increase in activities, this building and land were not sufficient. Then on 17 June 1917, the ashram was shifted to a larger area of ​​36 acres at the Sabarmati River banks. The real name of Sabarmati Ashram is Satyagraha Ashram. Its architecture was built by Charles Correa he used brick pillars, stone floors and tiled roofs which gave an expression of contemporary style. 

Kakasaheb Kalelkar named it 'Hridaya Kunj'. Ba and Bapu lived here from 1918 to 1930. Here he experimented things with many activities. It was also famous for its Historical Dandi March which was started on March 12, 1930, and covered a distance of about 387 Km. from Sabarmati Ashram to end in Dandi on April 6, 1930. This Ashram was the witness of the many freedom movements in India. The first PPC was Issued to Commemorate 46 years completed the end of the Dandi March (Salt Movement), The second and third PPCs have been Introduced to tribute to Gandhiji's death anniversary.
