Description: Valpoi village is situated in Sattari Taluka in Goa and is surrounded by rocky hills and dense forests. Its name comes from two words, val and poi, of which val means river and poi means other bank. The most favourable time to see butterflies is considered to be at the Ajobachi Tali in Autumn, which has a sacred pond about 3 km. from Brahma Karmali, The Ajobachi Tali is a small patch of wet evergreen forest, which has perennial sources of water bodies that quench the thirst of wild animals. 

This site is a gift to every butterfly watcher, Here the male Malabar tree nymph Butterfly glides in zig-zag fashion around his female partner diving and flying during courtship. The wingspan of the Malabar tree nymph is 120-154 mm. It appears as a white butterfly with black markings. The upper side is semitransparent white, sometimes slightly sunken with a dusting of black scales. Hindwing with similar markings Cell with two stripes, the upper part divided towards the apex and the lower part the same. antennae black Head and thorax streaked and spotted with black The belly is white, with a wide dark black stripe on top. In the year 2021, the Malabar tree nymph Butterfly was declared the state butterfly of Goa. 

On the occasion of World Wildlife Day on 3rd March 2022, the Goa Postal Division and the Goa Forest Department jointly released A Permanent Pictorial Cancellation which is available at the Valpoi sub-post office.
