Description: The oldest Temple of Goa is located at the village Tambdi Surla, a small Beautifully Carved Perfectly Proportioned Temple of Lord Shiva. It is 65 Km. from Panaji, in the middle of the forest. The temple is much smaller than the Goan temples, the top part of this temple was never completed. It is the temple that survived the Muslim & Portuguese invasions due to its remote location surrounded by a vast area of impenetrable vegetation. It is considered to be the only example of the architecture of the Kadamba-Yadava dynasty which ruled Goa from the tenth to the fourteenth century.

Intricate carvings made by skilled artisans in the interior and sides of the temple. It has a small pillared pavilion and a three-tiered minaret over the inner sanctum which is incomplete or was destroyed in the past. Lords Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma along with their consorts are present in the temple, figures are visible on the panels at the sides. At the centre of the mandapam, a headless Nandi was found. On the base of the pillars is carved an elephant trampling a horse, the symbol of the Kadamba Empire. Inside the sanctum, a Shivalinga is installed on a pedestal. Every Mahashivratri is celebrated with full pomp and joy in the temple by the local people of the surrounding villages.
