Description: Mangueshi Temple is situated 22 km. from Panaji, the temple is dedicated to Lord Mangueshi (Shiva) and was built in the village of Cortalim in Salsette, which fell to the Portuguese in 1543. Then Salcette Taluka's Saraswat of Vatsa Gotra shifted the temple from its original place at Kortalim on the banks of river Zuari to its present place at Mangueshi. The temple was rebuilt twice during the Maratha reign in the year 1890 and the last renovation took place in the year 1973 when a golden Kalash was placed on the top of the highest dome. According to beliefs, Lord Shiva lost everything to his wife Parvati in a game of dice.

Then Lord Shiva came to Goa to hide and while searching for him, Parvati reached Goa where Lord Shiva took the form of a Tiger to see the Tiger she was Frightened, then Parvati said "Trahi Maam Grisha" which means "Lord of the Mountains, please come and save me". Hearing this, Lord Shiva returned to his original form and took Parvati back. The name of the temple is based on the words Mam Grisha, hence it is called Mangueshi. This temple has been mesmerizing visitors for its simple beauty for the last 400 years. The temple is blessed with a freshwater spring and this is one of the oldest parts of the temple. There is also a seven-storey Deep Tower in the temple premises which is the most attractive part of the Temple.
