PO Name: Tapkara

Description: Tapkara village is situated in Jashpur district in the northeastern corner of Chhattisgarh, adjacent to the border of Jharkhand and Odisha. There is a lot of harmony in India regarding Naga tribes and snakes. Naga, Sapera or Kalbelia caste resides in India. According to the Puranas, in ancient times, people of the Naga species based on snakes lived in Kashmir. Later all these people of the Naga clan came and settled in Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh, which was called Dandakaranya in those times. Kalbelia dance of the Sapera caste is still popular. 'Naga Adivasi' is also believed to be related to snakes.

The existence of snakes along with gods and goddesses has been described since time immemorial. Jain and Buddhist gods also have Shesh Chhatra on their heads. Naga tribes dominate Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh. They have been living with snakes for centuries. Apart from King Cobra, Krait and Python, other types of snakes are also found here. The tribals of this region respect these poisonous creatures so much that killing them is not acceptable to them. The government is planning to build a snake park near Tapakara, this park can also provide better training to the villagers to deal with snakes and snake bites. India Post Chhattisgarh Circale issued a PPC on World Snake Day.
