Description: Shri Amarnath Shrine, located at an altitude of about 3,888 meters in the Himalaya region, in Pahalgam Tehsil of Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir, is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is famous for the ice Shivling which is a wonder of nature and formed by the rising and waning phases of the moon, is caused by the freezing of water droplets falling from the roof of the cave. There is a famous legend about Shri Amarnath Cave Temple in which Mother Parvati asks Lord Shiva why he wears a garland made of skulls, known as Mund Mala. He replied that he adds a skull to the garland every time Parvati is reborn. Parvati then asked the reason for his immortality. Reaching the cave, he made a barrier so that no living creature could hear the story and started telling the secret to Mother Parvati.

Incidentally, a pair of pigeons present in the cave heard the story and became immortal. Even today, information is received about seeing these immortal pigeons at the holy pilgrimage site. This temple not only holds spiritual significance but also reflects the co-existence of faith and nature. Surrounded by the beauty of the Himalayas and the serene surroundings, this cave temple gives an unforgettable experience to the pilgrims. This journey can be done through two routes, first, the Pahalgam route, which is about 46 km, and the second Baltal route which is shorter and inaccessible and is about 14 km. This journey is always challenging, even in the summer season the unpredictable weather is a challenge for the pilgrims. India Post has released this beautiful PPC on the occasion of Shri Amarnathji
