PO Name: Lal Chowk

Description: Lal Chowk has a very rich History and is one of the most famous places in Srinagar. The Lal Chowk complex is spread on both sides of the Residency Road between the Amira Kadal Bridge and Tyndale Biscoe School. Earlier, it was a small place that existed at the intersection of 4 roads. Since the red building is near the roads, the place is known as Red Square. In 1947, at the time of Partition, Lal Chowk became a very controversial place. The conflict lasted for many years and led to many attacks. For a large part of that time, the area was under curfew. Due to this, the place also lagged in the development process. But, when everything settled down, many measures were taken to redevelop the place.

Now, the place is home to rich local heritage. The place has now become a very busy business hub. There are a lot of amazing things you can do in this place. The local Kashmiri handicrafts are truly unique. You can visit the local market of this place. There are many cultural events held at this place during certain times. You can also visit them. Lal Chowk is a traffic intersection at its eastern end. It has a clock tower built by Bajaj Electricals in 1980. Initially, this place has traditionally served as a political meeting place, prominent leaders of the country have addressed the people from here from time to time.
