Description: Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan shifted his capital from Agra to Delhi in 1638 and he started the construction on 16 April 1639 which was completed on 16 April 1648. The cost of the fort was approximately one crore rupees. Red-colored Sandy Stone was used to build this fort so it is called Red Fort. The Fort has two grand three-storey main gateways flanked by semi-octagonal towers and contains several apartments located in the centre of the western and southern sides known as the Lahore and Delhi Gates. On the outside, on either side of the Delhi Gate, The main entrance to the fort is the Lahori Gate and three other entrances are now closed. The Chief Architect of this fort was Ustad Ahmad Lahori (1580–1649).

Red Fort is a symbol of Freedom and National integrity. The Fort is a Permanent Place for Flag Hoisting for every Independence Day. In 2007 it was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The most popular tourist destinations of India.

About the PPC, It became India’s first combination PPC which has to use two different cachets at a time to deface postal articles, one which contains a Red Fort image and the other is a regular date/place, but They touch each other for complete cancellation. One more important thing is that this PPC is also provided on Sunday (Weekly Holiday Monday).
