Description: The Sálim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History (SACON) is a National Centre for Information, Education & Research in Ornithology and Natural History in India. SACON's main campus is at Anaikatti a village located 24 km. from Coimbatore city, A forest reserve block in this district, it is one of the 17 villages in this Forest Reserve in Tamil Nadu in sylvan settings bestowed with a salubrious climate in the foothills of Western Ghats. SACON offers multiple opportunities for long-term studies on various aspects of avifauna and the biological principles and phenomena involved in the maintenance of fragile ecosystems. It has 223,000 sq. mtr. of land for buildings of housing, offices, a laboratory, a library with other facilities and a hostel. 

The unique round buildings of the campus were designed by Laurie Baker a world-renowned eco-friendly architect and were dedicated to SACON in the year 2000. The Sálim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History SACON is a national centre for information, education and research in ornithology and natural history in India. It was inspired by and named in honour of Salim Ali, the leading pioneer of ornithology in India. It is an autonomous organisation established in 1990. Its headquarters of SACON which is associated with the Ministry of Environment and Forests. Its Mission is to help Conserve India’s Biodiversity and its Sustainable use through Research, Education and people's participation, with birds at the centre stage.To Commemorate the Celebration of World Environment Day this Permanent Pictorial Cancellation of Anaikatti was released on 06.06.2019.
