PO Name: Courtallam

Description: Courtallam is located in the Western Ghats in the Tenkasi district of Tamil Nadu. It is famous for its many waterfalls, which form during the monsoon season called the Courtallam season. These famous waterfalls cascade from the rocks and create a spray in the air as they crash. These waterfalls are believed to have medicinal value as they pass through forests and herbs before descending. Courtallam is often called the medicated spa waterfall. There are seven different waterfalls.

Courtallam Falls, also known as Main Falls, is a magnificent waterfall nearly 100 meters high and 50 meters wide, offering a spectacular sight for visitors. Open 24 hours during peak season, it is located near the Courtallanathar temple. Five Falls, located 4 km from the main falls, divides the water into five parts during the normal season, creating a stunning natural display. Pazhathotta Aruvi Falls, also known as the 'VIP Falls,' requires permission for bathing except for politicians and bureaucrats. Chitraruvi Falls, close to the main falls, is a safe and small cascade ideal for children. Honey Falls, deep inside the forest at 1000 feet above sea level, is named after the presence of honeycombs in the area. Shenbagadevi Falls, situated 600 feet above sea level, features the Temple of Shenbagadevi. Tiger Falls, located around 1 km from the main falls, is an artificial creation, safe for children and visitors. Old Courtallam Falls, 8 km from the main falls, offers a beautiful route with lush greenery, children's pools, and a cost-effective tourist destination. The location and relatively low cost of Courtallam Falls make it a frugal tourist paradise. India Post, Tamilnadu Circle, issued a PPC to commemorate the Courtallam Water Falls as an active PPC.
