PO Name: Kovalam

Description: Kovalam means "coconut grove" because a large number of coconut trees are found here, which is why it is called Kovalam. It is a beach resort in the city of Thiruvanantha- puram, located in Kerala. Kovalam is renowned worldwide as one of the most famous beaches and a popular holiday destination for tourists. Its history dates back to the late 1920s when Queen Sethu Lakshmi Bayi of Travancore built her resort, Halcyon Castle. This attracted European guests of the Travancore king, eventually transforming the simple fishing village into a significant tourist destination. It is a 17 km coastline consisting of three beaches. The first one is known as Lighthouse Beach. It is the largest beach in Kovalam, named after the 30m high lighthouse situated on top of Kurumakal Hill. It has an observatory which can be reached by a lift or by climbing a flight of stairs with 142 steps.

The observatory offers a beautiful view of the beach. The second one is Hawah Beach, also known as Eve's Beach, which has water sports facilities and is famous for its palm trees that line the shore. This beach boasts the best view of the sunset. The third one, named Samudra Beach, is located in the northern part of Kovalam. It is the least crowded beach, and fishermen also prefer this coastline for fishing. All the beaches are separated by rocky protrusions and together form the crescent shape of Kovalam beach. The Kovalam PPC is one of the series of 6 PPCs which was issued the same day by Kerala Circle, India Post on various topics from different places.
