Description: Aranmula, located on the banks of the Pampa River in Pathanamthitta district in Kerala is renowned for the Aranmula Uthrittathi Boat Race. This event, held annually on the Uthrittathi day in the month of Chingam, coincides with the anniversary of the dedication of the idol at the Aranmula Parthasarathy Temple, which is around 1700 years old. The boat race is unique due to its rich history, associated legends, and the distinctive Aranmula Palliyodam boats used in the race.According to legend, the idol at the temple was rededicated by Goddess Bhumi Devi from Nilakkal, where it was initially dedicated by Arjuna. The boat race tradition is believed to have started when locals defended Bhattathiri of Kattur Mangadu Illam from bandits while he was bringing a Thiruvonam feast to the temple, leading to the current practice of Chundan Vallams escorting the Thiruvonathoni.
