Description: Bonal Bird Sanctuary, also known as Bohnal Bird Sanctuary, it is a wetland located near Bonal village in the Shorapur taluk of Yadgir district in Karnataka. It is the second-largest bird sanctuary in Karnataka, covering an area of 676.38 acres. Originally, the sanctuary was formed around the Bonal Lake, situated in one of the most undeveloped areas of Yadgir, has been recognized as one of the major wetlands in the region along the Central Asian Flyway. This water conservation tank was created by Pam Naik, a 17th-century ruler of Shorapur, and was later expanded during the British administrator by Meadows Taylor in Shorapur, to cover 1,600 acres. 

The lake supports around 10,000 native and rare migratory birds year-round. During the monsoon, the lake is replenished with rainwater, and in other seasons, it receives water from the Krishna River. The water body was declared a bird conservation reserve under Section 36(A) of the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972. The lake features a rich diversity of local and migratory birds belonging to 24 species are native, eight are international migrants, and another eight are regional migrants. Additionally, the lake hosts 24 different species of fish and various amphibians, as well as a range of zooplankton, aquatic insects, and weeds. This sanctuary was one of the largest among twelve water tanks built in a drought-prone region, gradually attracting migratory birds. Many of these tanks were previously utilized for fishing.
