Description: Sri Yellamma Temple, also known as Renuka Temple, is a pilgrimage destination located about 5 km. away from the town of Saundatti in Karnataka. It is 112 km. from Belagavi. It is situated on a hilltop known earlier as Siddhachal Parvat and now known as "Yellamma Gudi", named after the temple. The hill on which the Temple sits is part of the Sidhachal or Ramagiri range, oriented east-west and overlooking the Malaprabha River near the town. The temple was built in 1514 by Bomappa Nayaka of Raybag. As per archaeological evidence found around the temple, it existed period from the 8th to 11th centuries. The Temple was built in the Chalukyan and Rashtrakuta styles, as evidenced by the carvings created in Jain architecture. The goddess worshipped in the temple is associated The legends of Renuka are contained in the Mahabharata, the Harivamsa and the Bhagavata Purana worshipped as the goddess in the Hindu religion. Yellamma is the patron Goddess of the south Indian Her devotees revere her as the "Mother of the Universe" or "Jagadamba" with Parasurama's mother Renuka, the wife of the sage Jamadagni. She is revered as one of the Saptamatrika or seven divine mothers, who protected the earth and its rulers. This temple has been under the management of the Government of Karnataka since 1975.
