Description: The Anubhava Mandapam established by Basaveshwara at Basavakalyana in the 12th century is often referred to as the world's first parliament. In which it was debated by various philosophers and social reformers. Welfare was an integral part of the ancient history of the medieval period. It is believed that 770 Sharan followers led the 'Vachana' reformist movement in the 12th century. Basaveshwara (1131–1168) was a philosopher, and social reformer, who tried to create a casteless society and fought against caste and religious discrimination. He was born in Bagewadi in Bijapur district of Karnataka. He is also considered the founder of the Lingayat sect. The philosophy propounded by him was based on the principles of Arivu – true knowledge, Achar – right conduct, and Anubhav – divine experience, which brought about social, religious and economic revolution in the 12th century. He wrote 'Kalyan' in the year 1154. During his long stay of 12-13 years, he did many important works.

His efforts opened the doors of religion to all without any discrimination based on caste, religion or gender. Where 'Sharans' used to sit together to discuss socialist principles in a democratic framework. He gave two other important socio-economic principles – Kayaka-Divi functions. According to this, every person in society should do the work of his choice with complete honesty. Dasoha – There should be equal distribution and equal income for equal work. Kayakajivi – Workers can easily earn a living from their hard-earned money. They should not conserve wealth or assets for the future but should use the extra wealth for the welfare of society and the poor. The main objective of the 'Vachana'-poetry movement under the leadership of Basaveshwara in the 12th century was the welfare of all. This movement attempted to address class, caste and to some extent gender issues in the prevailing social environment of the time.
