Description: The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, Karnataka. A premier institution for scientific and technological research with higher education in India was established in 1909. The Institute also helped to establish the IITs in India after 1960. The institution was influenced by Swami Vivekananda's words with Jamsetji Tata, so Tata prepared a plan for the establishment of an institute for research and higher education to advance the scientific capabilities of India. Maharaja of Mysore and Jamsetji Tata contributed financial support with the donation of land and buildings for the institute. M. W. Travers, FRS, 1909–1914 became its First Director, The first Indian Director was Nobel laureate Sir C.V. Raman, FRS, 1933–1937.  

IISc has contributed to other well-known research institutes in India. The architectural style of the main building is classical with a built into an elegant brown tower in the centre of the building worked by Gilbert Beuys and was designed by C.F. Stevens & Company of Bombay in 1912-13. The main building, used for the administration work and the prestigious Faculty Hall, the front of the building, a statue has been erected for Tata's memory the inscription of which reads, "It will remind future generations of the generosity of Jamsetji Tata and the perseverance with which he worked for the welfare of India". The institution has collaborated with many Indian institutions and world-renowned Organizations.
