Description: Sri Durga Parameshwari Temple, situated in Kateel in the Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka, is regarded as one of the sacred temples in the state. Positioned approximately 26 km from Mangaluru, Kateel, located en route to Udupi, derives its name from the words 'center' and 'earth,' symbolizing it as the center of the earth. The temple, positioned on an island in the midst of the Nandini River, enriches the surrounding land with its fertile soil. Set amidst enchanting scenery and verdant landscapes, this ancient temple traces its origins to the early days of Kaliyuga. The legend narrates the tale of the Asura Arunasur, who, having won the favour of Lord Brahma through his rigorous penance, secured a boon that rendered him invincible to any Human or Animal with either two or four legs. Subsequently, the Asura's tyranny escalated until Goddess Parvati assumed the form of a stunning maiden named Mohini, tormenting the Asura. Eventually, as the Asura attempted to slay the Goddess, she transformed into a Rock, which, upon being shattered by the Asura in a fit of rage, released swarms of millions of Bees, revealing the Goddess herself, who vanquished and annihilated the Asura. The temple to this day features a colossal rock that echoes the event of the Goddess defeating the demon.

Constructed in the Dravidian architectural style, the temple boasts a towering seven-tiered Gopuram. Within the temple precincts, a dedicated sanctum is reserved for Lord Brahma, where he is ardently worshipped. The inner sanctum enshrines the idol of Goddess Durga Parameshwari, a manifestation of Goddess Parvati. The PPC depiction portraying the Sri Durga Parameshwari Temple encircled by the Nandini River graces the temple's surroundings.
