Description: Male Mahadeshwara Betta is a Religious and Tourist town located in Kollegal taluk of Chamarajanagar district of Karnataka. There is a famous and old temple dedicated to Lord Mahadeva. The surrounding area is entirely hilly and the temple is situated in the middle of seven hills. According to evidence, A Saint named Mahadeshwar had lived and performed penance at this place in the 15th century. 

He used the Huli (tiger) vehicle as his vehicle and stayed on this hill. Therefore he has been named Malemahadeshwar. In the temple, decorated elephants are used for religious ceremonies and festivals. During the religious festivals, colourful paintings are made on the bodies of elephants, then outfitted in ceremonial robes and solid gold masks and paraded in religious processions.

Also here Wildlife Sanctuary is an important elephant corridor in the hills having large tracts of forest area rich in sandalwood and bamboo. Elephants are the most prominent species as per estimates, the population of elephants in the district is more than 2500.
