Description: Sri Tallapaka Annamacharya was born in the village of Tallapaka, Taluka Rajampet in Kadapa District, Andhra in 1408 AD. was a devotee of Lord Sri Venkateswara and dedicated his life to Lord Tirupati. He composed beautiful devotional music in the Telugu language and Saint Poet and Composer of Carnatic Music was the first musician from the South to compose Sankirtanas. His spiritual compositions are based on Vaishnava philosophy and he belonged to the Ramanujacharya sect. He took initiation from Sri Satagopa Yatinda at Ahobila Matha began writing at the age of 16 and remained active until the age of 80 by the time he arrived in Tirupati, he had composed 32,000 verses. 

He sang each Sankirtan in front of the Lord in the Tirumala temple. Most of his hymns are full of spirituality and sweet devotion. Currently, only 12000 compositions are available. His hymns are of two types spiritual bhaav and Madhur bhaav, although most of the compositions are Madhur bhaav. Legend has it that while giving up his life, he had told his son to continue the tradition of composing one sankirtan every day. He passed away in 1503 AD at the age of 95. His wife Timmakka, also a poet, composed a book called 'Subhadra Kalyanam' and is considered to be the first Telugu poetess. Their son Pedda Tirumalacharya was also a famous vaggeyakari (poet), and the poets of the Tallapaka family continued the tradition of composing huge poetry. Tirupati Devasthanam Archives mention that the literary works of his family are preserved in copper plates in a small chamber in the Tirumala temple. These include his three major texts namely "Adhyatma Sankeertanalu", "Shringar Sankeertanalu" and "Shringar Manjari".
