A cow used to come daily to sprinkle its milk on the idol. After the cow was sacrificed, the idol started bleeding and a woman offered her hair to stop the bleeding. It is believed that for any man or woman who donates his or her hair to the temple, his or her wishes are fulfilled. Inside the temple, there is a stick on the right side, which is said to have been used by Balaji's mother to beat him. The tradition of applying sandalwood paste on the idol continues even today. The idol is made of black stone and is said to be lifelike. Despite the cool atmosphere in the temple, drops of sweat can be seen on the idol, which is believed to be a result of the extreme heat experienced by Balaji. The temple holds many mysteries, such as a constantly burning lamp in which no oil or ghee is poured. Additionally, the hair of the idol never gets tangled and is always soft. When the idol is listened to carefully, the sound of ocean waves can be heard. Every Thursday, when the idol is decorated with sandalwood paste, an image of Goddess Lakshmi emerges near the heart of the idol. This shows that Goddess Lakshmi resides within Balaji. The cancellation depicts Tirumala Venkateswara Swamy Temple Gopuram.
