Description: This Suryadev temple is located in Arasavalli village which is 1 km away from Srikakulam city of Andhra Pradesh. This temple is one of the oldest Surya temples in the country. According to the Puranas, Sage Kashyap had installed the idol of the Sun God here for the welfare of the whole world. Indradev found this temple and from here he lifted the soil three times and there he found this beautiful idol of the Sun God in which his three wives, two gatekeepers and above two divine saints are shown holding an umbrella and riding on another chariot. All these figures are exquisitely carved from the same black finely polished granite stone.

According to the inscriptions of the temple, Devendra Varma, the ruler of the Kalinga Empire, built this temple in the late 7th century and installed the idol of the Sun God in it, the inscriptions reveal that some land was donated to the Sun God to install an eternal lamp in the temple and to run a school or hostel for students studying scriptures and Vedas. These donations were made by Kalinga's successors before the 11th century AD. The temple is built in such a way that the rays of the Sun that fall twice a year in the mornings in March and September, from the five entrances of the temple, focus on the feet of the idol and stay for a few minutes. A special place in the temple is the installation of five idols of Aditya, Ambika, Vishnu, Ganesha, and Mahesh, which is called Panchayatan. Devotees visiting this temple worship the main deity, Sun God, who is also considered the protector of all living beings. Sunday is considered the most auspicious day to worship the Sun God.
