Description: On April 15, 1958, the Government of India established the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, a civil service training institute focused on public policy and public administration. It later merged with the IAS Training School in Delhi and the IAS Staff College in Shimla to form a comprehensive National Academy of Administration, which was established in Mussoorie in 1959. The training of the first batch of officers commenced at Metcalf House in Delhi on April 13, 1959, with a total of 115 officers. In September 1959, the academy relocated to the Charleville Hotel in Mussoorie, which was built in 1854.

Notably, the writer Rudyard Kipling stayed there in 1888. In 1984, a fire destroyed the main hotel building; however, the government later acquired the property from private ownership. The academy has undergone two name changes. In October 1972, it was renamed the Lal Bahadur Shastri Academy of Administration, and in July 1973, it received its current name: Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA). The motto of the training college, written in Sanskrit, is "Sheelam Param Bhushanam," which translates to "Character is the highest virtue."
