Description: Hussainabad Clock Tower (Ghantaghar) is a Historical site of Lucknow, UP. It was built in the late 19th Century by Nawab Nasir-ud-din Haider of Awadh, whose construction was started in 1880 and completed in one year. It was built to commemorate the arrival of Sir George Cooper, Lieutenant Governor of the United Province of Awadh. It was designed by British architect Roskell Payne. Its architecture is a beautiful blend of Mughal and Victorian styles. The tower is 67 meters high and has a diameter of 4 meters. It is made of red bricks and is decorated with intricate plasterwork, decorative plasterwork and beautiful designs. The base of the Ghantaghar is square and as it rises, it gradually becomes octagonal.

The four dials of the tower are 15 feet in diameter and are made of pure white marble. The Clock in the tower was made by the famous German Clockmaker Carl Bernard Schwartz, it still works and maintains its accuracy. The top of the tower has a beautiful dome-shaped structure with a finial on top. The finial is made of a golden ball which is believed to be filled with mercury and it is said that the ball rotates when the tower shakes during an earthquake.
