PO Name: Agra

Description: Agra, a renowned city in Uttar Pradesh, is celebrated for its rich history and culture and is home to many popular tourist attractions. During the Mughal Empire, it served as the capital. The Taj Mahal, a famous mausoleum and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was built in memory of Mumtaz Mahal, the wife of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. Construction took place from 1632 to 1653 and is recognized as a prime example of unique Mughal architecture. The mausoleum is located on the banks of the Yamuna River and was constructed using red stone, white marble, brass, gold, sapphire, pearls, Makrana marble, and other precious gems. Its beauty and architectural magnificence are exemplified through its vastness and intricate carvings, making it a symbol of culture, history, and love.

Approximately 20,000 labourers, craftsmen, architects, and artisans were involved in the construction of the Taj Mahal. The renowned Mughal architect Ustad Ahmed Lahori served as the chief architect, overseeing the carving and structural construction, while blending Mughal and traditional Indian architectural styles. Many skilled artisans contributed to the remarkable carvings and intricate craftsmanship of the Taj Mahal. India Post, Uttar Pradesh Circle, has issued postal policy cards (PPCs) at two locations related to the Taj Mahal. The first was issued during the inaugural function of the new Philatelic Bureau on 20.10.1982. The second was issued at the opening of the Taj Mahal Sub Post Office, which initially did not have a date. Later, this was replaced with a new PPC on 20th September 2011, which included a date. Previously, an additional date stamp had to be affixed.
