It is known as "Little Lhasa" or "Dhasa" due to its large population of Tibetans. The headquarters of the Tibetan government-in-exile is in McLeodganj. Its average altitude is 2,082 metres. It is situated on the Dhauladhar Range, whose highest peak, "Hanuman Ka Tibba", about 5,639 metres, lies immediately behind it.
