The female, on the other hand, has a white spot on the throat and a white stripe on the tail. The Himalayan Monal's native ranges from Afghanistan and Pakistan to the Himalayas in India, Nepal, Southern Tibet and Bhutan. These social birds are often seen in pairs or small groups and congregate in larger groups during winter. They are active during the day, foraging for various insects, seeds, tubers, roots and berries. Although they are facing threats such as poaching and human disturbance, efforts need to be made to conserve these beautiful birds in their natural habitat. India Post, Himachal Circle Issued this PPC on 28th May 2004 as per information published by them.
