Description: The formal formation of the state of Mizoram took place on 20th Feb. 1987 at Aizawl, inaugurated by then PM Rajiv Gandhi. It was formerly known as Aijal and is the capital and most populous city of Mizoram. Here the most prominent animal is the Mithun (Bos frontalis) and his Horn, a unique bovine species found in parts of Northeast India. It holds great importance in the social, cultural and religious life of the ethnic communities of the region. It is reared here for its high-quality meat. This animal also plays an important role in supporting hill agriculture. This animal is an important animal due to its strong association with the culture of ethnic communities in Northeast India.

After its death, its horns are used in various ways, including musical instruments, headdresses, drinking vessels and hunting weapons. The drummer directs the entire dance, while the singer sings the lyrics of the song 'Chai' using the Mithun's horn. Different versions of Chailam involve musical instruments like drums and Mithun's horn to create rhythm. The festival usually lasts a week or more. Both men and women of the Mizo community mainly are avid tobacco smokers, often using their different types of pipes. Women prefer small, hand-held pipes that look like miniature hookahs, while men usually use more traditional Western-style pipes made from Bamboo and Weed.
