Description: Coronation Bridge Standing over the Teesta River, an ancient Roman architectural-style bridge in Sevoke Town near Siliguri West Bengal, also known as the Sevoke Roadway Bridge, connects Darjeeling and Kalimpong. This is a part of National Highway 17 that runs parallel to the Sevoke Railway Bridge which is about 2 km. away. The Bridge was constructed to celebrate the coronation of King George VI as well as Queen Elizabeth, two tiger sculptures were positioned on the entrance side of the bridge. Thus, local people called it 'Bagh Pool’ or ‘Tiger Bridge’. Its work was started in 1937 and completed in 1941. The design of the bridge was done by John Chambers, the British engineer using the reinforced concrete system, the bridge is a specimen of architecture made on the Teesta River bed. The historical and architectural value of the bridge is under consideration to be declared as a heritage site. It links West Bengal with Northeast India. The Sevoke Coronation Bridge is famous for its unique display of British architecture and design as well as for its natural attractions. Since then, the bridge has played a vital communication link in the region also, it has been a tourist attraction for its magnificent look and flow of the Teesta River with the mountain ranges.
