PO Name: Cooch Behar

Description: There is a magnificent Royal Palace in the city of Cooch Behar in West Bengal, also known as Victor Jubilee Palace, which was built by Maharaja Nripendra Narayan and was designed in 1887 on the model of Buckingham Palace in London. The majestic palace with striped domes and Corinthian columns still stands glittering with beauty, this magnificent building is two-storeyed and spread over about 51309 square feet. According to folklore, it is believed that it was built by the Khen rulers in the 14th-15th century. Now excavations done by the Archaeological Survey of India have revealed that these sites belong to the 10th-11th century.

There are many halls and rooms inside this palace. The wide verandahs built on the ground floor are full of wonders and a museum has been built on one side of the palace. Its exterior and interior have antiques like chandeliers, paintings and photographs which are a reflection of the ancient era. The museum has many glimpses of those objects which used to amaze even in old times. The museum is full of chandeliers and oil paintings. The ancient sculptures displayed here add to the charm of the museum. The façade of the palace is adorned with several arcades on both the ground floor and the first floor. The Durbar Hall, topped with a gilded dome, is the main attraction of the palace. The palace is protected by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
