Description: Odissi dance and Barabati Fort of Cuttack, Orissa is a combination of culture and history of Cuttack, Odissi Dance is the oldest form of Classical Dance in India, also in the carvings found in Udayagiri Monastery show that Odissi dance existed as early as the 2nd century BC. The forms of this dance can be divided into movements of the head, chest and torso with gestures and expressions that make its dance seen as "poetry in motion". The emotions depicted are enormous and touch from sadness to ecstasy, sensuality to anger, pride to devotion and the philosophy of Dance. On the other hand, Barabati Fort was built by Merkata Keshari of the Somvanshi dynasty in 987 AD. The ruins of the fort remain, along with its moat, gates and the earthen mound of the nine-storey palace. A stone embankment was built to protect Cuttack, then known as Cuttack. The fort is square in plan. It covers an area of 102 acres surrounded by a stone-lined moat. The entire wall of the fort is missing except the entrance gate. Given its national importance, the place has been declared a protected site by the ASI. This PPC combining two identities of Cuttack is issued by the Department of Posts.
