PO Name: Basukinath Dham

Description: Basukinath Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is considered to be one of the twelve Jyotirlinga and one of the most important pilgrimage sites for Hindus. The history of this temple believed that when the Sagar Manthan took place, Lord Vasuki, a serpent-headed deity, offered sacrifice to the Shiva Linga during the Sagar Manthan. For a very long time, it was also believed that the Shiva Linga was bathed with milk by serpents, giving the name of this temple Basukinath Dham. The temple had been established in 1596.

The present structure was built in the 19th century. The temple is surrounded by a large courtyard and is known for its intricate carvings and sculptures. The spiritual significance of this temple lies in the belief that Lord Shiva appeared here in the form of a Jyotirlinga, which represents his divine and pure consciousness. The court of Lord Shiva is located here in Basukinath Temple. The Lord pays attention to his followers who visit the Dham respectfully and sincerely. This legend is closely associated with the Kanwaria ceremony prevalent in Shravan. The temple is considered to be a place where devotees can attain salvation and wash away their sins by performing prayers and rituals. This temple is a popular pilgrimage site and attracts millions of devotees from all over India and abroad. The temple is especially crowded in the month of Shravan (July-August), this is known as the Shravan Mela and is said to be one of the largest religious gatherings in India.
