Jamsetji Tata and his associates worked hard for three years to find a place for this steel plant. Which was Sakchi village in the Chhota Nagpur plateau near the confluence of the Subarnarekha and Kharkai rivers. Construction of the city along with the plant began in 1908. The first steel ingot was made on 16 February 1912. Which was an important day in the history of India.

In 1919, the establishment was named Jamshedpur after its founder Jamsetji Tata. Tata's plan for this city was clear. Many areas of the city are well planned and there are public recreational places like Jubilee Park. While laying out the city, he had stated that the city should have wide roads and shade trees, ample space for lawns and gardens; large areas reserved for football, hockey and parks; areas earmarked for Hindu temples, Muslim mosques and Christian churches. Messrs Julius Kennedy Sahlin Pittsburgh prepared the first layout of Jamshedpur city. The city is a city of over a million with three municipal corporations.
