Description: Nagi Bird Sanctuary is located in Jhaiha Jamui district of Bihar. The sanctuary is located 12 km from Jhajha railway station. It was declared a bird sanctuary on 25 February 1984 as per the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. During the winter season, especially from November to February, thousands of migratory birds gather at the reservoir. The area of the sanctuary is 2.1 square kilometres. It is home to more than 133 bird species. There are also a variety of dragonflies, damselflies and butterflies. In 2004, Nagi Dam Bird Sanctuary was declared an Important Bird Area (IBA) by Birdlife International. The highly revered Jain pilgrimage site of Lachhuar is 50 km and Deoghar temple is 80 km from the sanctuary.

Nagi Bird Sanctuary is home to migratory birds like the Bar-headed Goose, Greylag Goose, Northern Pintail, Red-crested Pochard, Steppe Eagle, Taiga Flycatcher etc. travelling from the Himalayas, Europe, North Asia and even the Arctic Circle visit the sanctuary. Apart from migratory birds, a variety of local birds like the Ash-crowned Sparrow Lark also stay in and around the sanctuary throughout the year. About 3% of the global population of Bar-headed Geese is found in Nagi Bird Sanctuary. As a result, dry land birds like the Indian Courser, Indian Sandgrouse, Yellow-wattled Lapwing and Indian Robin are also seen here. Thousands of aquatic birds gather in and around Nagi Bird Sanctuary in winter.
